The Ignite Durham Learning Foundation (IDLF) is proud to announce that it has been named Non-Profit of the Year at the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce’s Pearl Gala Business Awards. This recognition is an incredible honour, celebrating the impact of IDLF’s work in supporting students and families across our community.

“This award is deeply meaningful because it’s not just about IDLF,” said Stacey Lepine-Fisher, Executive Director of IDLF. “It’s about the vision, courage, and commitment that began long before our Foundation even existed. This recognition belongs to every single person who has stood with us to face the realities of poverty and its impact on students. Together, we showed our kids that we care, that they matter, and that their futures matter.”

Founded out of the Durham District School Board’s Make A Difference Poverty Strategy in 2014, Ignite Durham Learning Foundation has been steadfast in its mission to remove barriers to learning and provide students with the opportunities they deserve. Whether it’s access to food, clothing, technology, or extracurricular experiences, IDLF ensures that no student is left behind.

“This honour is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our entire Ignite Durham family,” said Neil Joshi, Chair of IDLF. “From our Board of Directors and Fundraising Committee to our incredible staff and volunteers, and the unwavering support of our donors, community partners, and DDSB Trustees, this award belongs to all of us.”

The Foundation highlighted that none of its success would be possible without the collective strength of the community:

·       DDSB Trustees and school leaders, who first had the courage to act and continue to ensure students in need are supported.

·       Volunteers, whose time and talents make the impossible possible.

·       Community organizations and donors, who fuel every initiative.

·       Staff and Board members, who drive the mission forward every day.

“This recognition reflects what we can achieve when we come together for our students,” added Lepine-Fisher. “Our community is stronger, our students are supported, and their futures are brighter. This award truly belongs to all of us.”

The Ignite Durham Learning Foundation extends gratitude to the Greater Oshawa Chamber of Commerce for celebrating the contributions of local organizations and to all the nominees who continue to make an impact across Durham Region.
