Our Story
In 2013, the Durham District School Board (DDSB) launched the ‘Make a Difference’ early years poverty strategy in order to support students who were facing financial barriers to success.
The impact was real, but that was only the beginning. Even with its success, too many kids were still being left behind.
We needed to do more.

From that commitment, the Ignite Durham Learning Foundation was born.
What began as a response to growing student needs became a dedicated organization that would stand unwaveringly beside DDSB children and youth struggling with financial insecurity.
The Foundation gained official charitable status in May 2021, and since then, we’ve been dedicated to making sure every student has nutritious meals, proper clothing for all seasons, access to life-changing programs, and the support needed to succeed in post-secondary education.
